Case Study Biology and Digital Storytelling
The after school intern provided adequate background information. He/She said where the case study were hold (Skyview High School, Billings), during which subject (Anatomy Class) students will do the activity and for which age group the activity is appropriate (juniors/seniors). The technology used is a Vidoe created by students which will then be shown through the media IMovie.
Also, he/she gave reasons why this case study could enhance students learning. First, they will have to do a selective research since the video will be informative (informative presentation). Students than have to be more critical about what information they will talk about while creating a more analytical thought process. This will enhance their ability to better critical thinking.
Second, the activity plan was described in detail so that a substitute teacher would be able to copy the case study. He/she gave the exact steps of how to fullfill the assignment.
Third, the relavtive advantage of this project is that students will be able to carefully select specific information which is comes from a good source from the web. Also, they will be able to use a video recorder and iMovie to create a presentation.
The content will be thought by presenting the different videos to their peers. Others will watch and observe them and their project. Afterwards evaluate the individual projects and give feedback. Often students will be more decisive in their behavior and try to achieve at a high level when knowing peers will watch them later on. This will lead to a deeper understanding of the material.
This case study is a good example I believe of how technology can give opportunities to students to interact with ideas and content. By creating their own video the individual can be creative and choose the way of how they want to present the information. Furthermore, they will use skills that they can use in various other classes as well as in the real world.
